I did it! No more meat for me as of Tuesday June 29, 2012. I am officially a veg!
I have been back and forth about becoming a vegetarian for years and as such have been eating very little meat, and mostly seafood at that. My turning point? Watching a pig get slaughtered. One moment it was alive and the next it was gone--for what? To feed me? No!
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against you for eating meat if that is your choice. My husband is, and I'm sure will always be, an omnivore. I've even agreed to still purchase meat and cook it for him because that is his right. I just don't want animals to die just to feed ME. I am still including eggs and dairy in my diet as long as they are cage free and humanely treated.
I'm hoping that my transition to vegetarianism is easy, as I didn't eat much meat before. I have, however, been thinking of foods that I might miss in the vegetarian lifestyle and to be completely honest I can only think of two:
1.) Chick-Fil-A sandwiches
2.) Scallops
I'm sure I'll manage. The thought of more chickens and scallops having (hopefully) happy lives outside of my digestive tract gives me hope.
I'd love to hear what you think about vegetarianism and/or what your favorite veg foods are. I love black beans myself!
